Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) in 3D

New whitepaper on ‘Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) in 3D’

The newly published whitepaper (only available in German) describes the fundamentals of the 3D system used by Iftest for automatic optical inspection (AOI), produced by the Korean company Koh Young Technology Inc., and compares it with older 2D technology. The comprehensively researched whitepaper provides a detailed overview of the assembly errors that can be identified via AOI and describes how the SMT assembly process can be optimised regarding maximum process stability and cost efficiency. In addition, the whitepaper touches on the limits of AOI systems and describes, with reference to the Iftest practice, how the quality assurance process can be usefully supplemented by further testing procedures (e.g. with x-ray microscopy or electric testing procedures). Find out more

Multi-frequency Moiré technology as the core of the Koh-Young AOI system

The core element of the 3D system for automatic optical inspection (AOI) for quality assurance in electronic assembly used by Iftest is the well known and patented Moiré stripe grid projection technology. But how does it work? The technology developed by Koh Young is not that easy to understand at first glance. However, Iftest wanted to know what exactly happens inside a 3D AOI system and equipped the head paths with a high-speed camera. The result: the stripe grid projection technology becomes visible to the human eye. Find out more
